NAFA open house!

accompanied charmz for mod dance open class
i thought it was 10am in the morning.
in the end i called charmaine then she told me 10.30am~
wa, i even arrived at the campus 3 entrance earlier than the NAFA ppl,
they came to set up tables and stuff only around 10.15am?

like they said,
"don't judge a book by its cover" &
"looks don't matter, it's the inside that counts!"
same for NAFA,
NAFA doesn't look appealing from the outside,
but it's the inside that matters!

open class was conducted by a Purchase College guest instructor/choreographer.
it was a really easy and fun class,
because ppl that turned up came with their school CCA group;
i.e CCHMS and River Valley Sec.
initially i didn't wanna participate but charmaine kept saying please please please so i gave in,
and i don't regret it! :)
cammie and cheerene came in but they didn't dance with us,
so they just observed class :]
(ya and we saw cammie laughing everytime we need to do something funny, it's modern dance after all)

Purchase College is one of the top arts state university based in NY,
alongside Juilliard and such..
so it's pretty cool NAFA has links with Purchase.
[btw they pronounce Purchase in a cool way, (Per-Chers), not like the word to describe buying something (per-chase)]
cool right.

charms spoke with the Head of Dance in NAFA after masterclass
she told us about a lot
NAFA sounds tempting now doesn't it charmaine!
i think her name is Dr Caren, something like that.
she's a very nice person :)
and very talented.
started dancing only when she was 16?
and then later in life,
she auditioned in the US (against another what, 200 people?)
for ONE place.
AND SHE GOT IT!
*bows*

sighh
sometimes i just lose confidence
easily
but i'll work hard to gain the confidence back, and work harder for improvement.

oh yeah,
she also pointed out something.
nowadays, people are taking hiphop to a higher level.
people in the US,
most of the established streetstyle dancers, are not just street based.
they usually have gone through proper training/foundation
which is why they are so awesome.

to get a place in NAFA, we need to audition.
she says she's looking for potential.
she says looking at the class we did, we definitely have potential.
and she says life is about making choices and decisions.
for audition,
3 parts.
part 1, ballet.
part 2, modern.
part 3, SOLO.
then she said, "you can even come do a solo using street style! what we're looking for is the potential and the passion ;) "

and she said a lot of many other things..
aiya but how to survive ballet & modern dance for 3 years
there are probably jazz and stuff once in a while but... :/

still, the name of the Diploma is so awesome.

Diploma in Dance.
woah.
and Purchase College offers a Bachelor Degree.
Degree in Dance.
woah.
but,
dance = passion.
if you ain't got the passion, don't go for dance.
because most people don't see the hardwork behind the scenes
and a dancer's life is short (in terms of dance)
how far can you go?
how long can you dance?
esp hiphop.
by the time you hit forty, think you still have the energy to compete with the teens?

haiyah ok enough serious stuff.
moving on.

after NAFA,
we went to eat sushi at cathay.
yumz.
then we were talking about the topic of Art.
and how most people don't understand Art.

charmaine was sharing a story with us.
there was a white piece of canvas,
with a red dot in the middle of the canvas,
Title: Confusion.
AND, that piece of artwork is priced at SIXTY million dollars.
rock on.

then we were wondering how people audition to get into NAFA's art programs.

here, this is my piece of art.

it's called, Lunch.
it is formed
using a plate of finished sushi,
threw some rejected yucky-tasting salmon skin,
random bunch of rice (i think charmaine's..)
and a strand of noodle that my buddy cheerene dropped on the table.
oh yes, not forgetting the shadow on top casted by a bottle of light sauce.
ta-da.
thanks i know i've got a lot of potential.

then charmaine said she want to take pictures
and she said

which supposedly translates to
alisha take out your phone to take pictures.
haha so i just stoned there for quite some time
then cammie said
oi want to take pictures or not.
that's when charmaine translated -alakazam- for me.

yes, it is true. charmaine cannot take pictures. hahaha.


however, cheerene with long hands can! :D

then,
char went for ballet class
alisha went for bboy class
alisha came home.

alisha = tired.
kinda.
and the sky looks like its gonna rain
but maybe it's just dark because it's around 7.12pm
